Rybalko V.P. 80th anniversary

On October 11, 2016, the open Scientific Council of the Institute of Pig Breeding and APV of the National Academy of Sciences will be held on the occasion of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the academician Valentin Pavlovich Rybalko

Valentin Pavlovich was born on October 8, 1936 in the city of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region, in the family of nurse Vira Volodymyrivna Matukhnova and electric welder Pavel Dmytrovych Rybalko, who returned from the Great Patriotic War and died when his son was 9 years old.

Valentyn graduated from the first grade. Stara Mayachka, located in the Kherson region, the second in the village Novogrigoryevka of the Kazankiv district of the Mykolaiv region, the third in the village. Petrovskoye of the Stavropol Krai, and from 4th to 10th grade he studied at the seventh-grade school No. 3 and comprehensive secondary school No. 1 in the city of Bairam-Ala of the Turkmen SSR.

After graduating from school (1954), Valentin worked as a locomotive driver at a brick factory in Bayram-Ali. From there he was called up for active military service, which he completed in the city of Sevastopol in the ranks of the Navy.

After returning from military service, he entered the zootechnical faculty of the Turkmen Agricultural Institute named after Kalinin, who successfully graduated in 1961.

During five years of study at the institute, he headed the Komsomol organization of the faculty. In the fourth year of study, he prepared and published his first article on the implementation of variational statistics methods in animal husbandry.

They were offered a special table for determining the mass of cattle of Turkmenistan based on measurements of chest girth and oblique length of the animal's body.

As a young specialist on the referral of a higher educational institution for 4 years, V.P. Rybalko first worked as a zootechnician-breeder of the state farm named after October 25 (now the "Zoryan" research farm) of the Pervomaysky district of the Mykolaiv region. In the second year, he was transferred to the position of the senior zootechnician of the educational farm of the Migeiv rural technical school, which is located on the territory of this Pervomayskyi district. Here he prepared and published his second scientific work entitled "Group maintenance of suckling sows".

After a few months of work in the educational economy of the technical school, he, as a young specialist, was appointed to the position of zootechnician in the management of production and preparation of agricultural products of the Pervomai district, on the territory of which 49 collective farms and 4 state farms operated.

In 1964, the long-standing dream of Valentin Pavlovich Rybalko came true - to become a researcher and to use the professional knowledge acquired at the University and in practical work more deeply. He enters postgraduate studies at the Poltava Research Institute of Swine Husbandry for in-patient training in the specialty of breeding and selection of farm animals. In 1967, Valentin Pavlovich successfully defended his candidate's thesis at the Ukrainian Agricultural Academy (Kyiv) on the topic "The large black pig breed and its use in purebred breeding and crossbreeding".

The whole subsequent life path is closely connected with the Poltava Research Institute of Pig Breeding (NOW Institute of Pig Breeding and APV of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).

V.P. Rybalko Here, after completing his postgraduate studies, he was offered to work as a senior researcher in the Department of Breeding and Genetics. From 1970 to 1987 V.P. Rybalko worked as the deputy director of the institute for scientific work, and from 1988 to 2007, the director of this specialized scientific center, the only one in the former Soviet Union, and now in Ukraine, for solving issues of the theory and practice of pig farming.

In 1985, V.P. Rybalko defended his doctoral thesis at a meeting of the specialized board of the Don Agricultural Institute.

In 1992, Rybalko received the title of professor in the specialty: breeding, selection and reproduction of agricultural animals, and in 1993 he was elected a full member (academician) of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences. A few years later (in 1997) he was awarded the title "Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine", and in 2005 he was elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Academician V.P. Until 2011, Rybalko was the chairman of the Coordinating Council of Scientific and Technical Programs on Pig Breeding Problems, the development of which involved around 30 research institutes, regional state agricultural research stations and universities of Ukraine. Since 1992, he has been the chairman of the specialized council for the defense of theses, which functions at the institute.

V.P. Rybalko is one of the authors of breeding achievements that contribute to scientific progress in pig breeding: Poltava meat type (PM-1), highly productive maternal type in the large white breed (UVB-1), Poltava meat breed (PM), red belt specialized line (ChPSL), red and white-belted breed (ChBP) and about 20 genealogical structures of new genotypes. Under the methodical guidance and with the direct participation of Professor V.P. Rybalko has developed and published more than 40 methods, as well as methodical recommendations for the pig industry.

Academician V.P. Rybalko has 22 author's certificates and patents for breeding developments, he has published more than 700 scientific works, including 3 monographs, 5 textbooks and 7 training manuals.

V.P. Rybalko is a member of the agrarian section of the Committee of the State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, a member of the scientific and technical council of the Ministry of APV of Ukraine, a member of the "Zootechnics" department of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as a member of the editorial boards of a number of domestic and foreign magazines.

V.P. Rybalko supervises the training of young personnel through postgraduate and doctoral studies, conducts training courses in separate educational institutions. Under his methodical guidance, 36 doctoral and candidate theses were prepared and successfully defended. He was twice awarded the title of Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (1984, 1990).

For a significant scientific and industrial contribution to the development of agricultural science and practice and services to the state V.P. Rybalko was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR (1982), the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (1982), the Certificate of Honor of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2002). In 1997, in Geneva, he was awarded the International Personal Award "Estremaker" in the nomination: "For the preservation and development of the intellectual and personnel potential of the enterprise in the period of transition economy." For achievements in scientific work, as well as numerous publications in the field of activity by the decision of the management of the American Biographical Institute of the USA V.P. Rybalko was awarded the honorary title "Person of 2001".

In 2003, V.P. Rybalko is elected a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

In 2009, he was awarded the "Excellence of Agrarian Education and Science" by the Ministry of Agriculture of Ukraine, and in 2010, the "Author" sign by the State Department of Intellectual Property.

From a young age, V.P. Rybalko was fond of poetry and humor. He published 3 collections of poems and 11 books on humor and scientific wisdom.
