April 21, 2024 – MEMORIAL DAY OF MYKOLA DAVIDOVICH BEREZOVSKY

A year has passed since the passing of the outstanding scientist-breeder, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Zootechnician of Ukraine - an erudite, deeply intellectual, highly intelligent, sincere and generous person for good.

Mykola Davydovich lived for science and therefore all his scientific activity was fruitful, inspired and successful. His knowledge and energy were aimed at organizing science and finding opportunities to practically use its results in production.

The main direction of M. D.'s research Berezovsky is the selection of the most widespread in Ukraine large white breed of pigs, and the result of many years of work in this field was the creation of three intrabreed types of pigs (UVB-1, UVB-2, UVB-3) and in their structure 8 factory types and a large number of lines and families.

Theoretical research of M. D. Berezovsky is related to immuno- and population genetics, which were effectively used to predict the selection process with the breed.

The scientist's creative heritage includes over 400 scientific papers, 10 patents and 18 copyright certificates.

The scientist founded a scientific school on breeding in pig breeding. Under the leadership of Mykola Davydovych, 15 candidate and one doctoral dissertations were defended.

Scientists of the Institute of Pig Breeding and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences honored the memory of the scientist, colleague, teacher, and friend. The director of the Institute of Pig Breeding and APV of the NAAS Oleksandr TSERENYUK, academician of the NAAS, Valentyn RIBALKO, his students: acting deputy director for scientific work Andriy ONYSCHENKO, acting head of the laboratory of pig breeding and selection Vitaly VOVK, senior researcher of the same laboratory Pavlo VASHCHENKO and other colleagues shared their memories about him. Mykola Davydovych's life path was told by his relatives and wife Alvina BEREZOVSKA.

An exhibition dedicated to the Scientist has been created in the museum of the Institute of Pig Breeding and Agricultural Sciences of the NAAS. It contains some personal belongings and presents his creative heritage in the form of textbooks, monographs, manuals, etc.

A birch tree has been planted on the territory of the institute in honor of the memory of Mykola Davydovich.

As time goes on, we remember with boundless warmth and light sadness the multifaceted figure of the Scientist, Teacher, colleague, citizen, who laid down his entire life, from his youth to his last day, on the altar of Science for the benefit of his native Ukraine, because "...only then does the soul not die when it lives in memory without limits."
